Reducing catastrophic pandemic risk
We saw from COVID-19 how unprepared we are to handle large-scale pandemics. Even now, too few of resources are being invested in mitigating the risks of pandemics that could be far more severe than COVID-19. These could be natural, or be caused by bio-weapons or bio-terrorism.

Improving animal welfare
One of the greatest problems in the world today may be the suffering of animals in the meat industry. In 2015, roughly 9.2 billion animals were raised and slaughtered in factory farms in the US alone,in conditions likely to cause extreme suffering.
